What is the value of the Gender Equity Award for Councils?

 

 

 

Councils who choose to participate in the 5050Vision awards will be recognised for their contribution to gender equity and be seen as ‘Gender Equity Employer of Choice'.  These awards recognise the efforts of Councils to ensure gender equity within their workplace.

What differences will a Gender Equity Award make to my Council?

 

Councils who choose to participate in the 5050Vision awards will be recognised for their contribution to gender equity and be seen as 'Gender Equity Employer of Choice'.  These national awards will acknowledge and recognise the efforts of your Council in supporting and maintaining gender equity and encouraging women in your workplace.

Q3.

What is the difference between the three Gender Equity Award?

 

The 5050Vision - Councils for Gender Equity Project has three levels:

Bronze level
The Bronze Award is the entry level for the program.  In order to achieve Bronze Award councils must:

  • Conduct an audit of staff/representative gender ratios
  • Provide a council endorsed statement of commitment to address gender equity issues
  • Outline at least one project the organisation will undertake or has undertaken to address gender equity issues
  • Nominate a 5050Vision champion within the organisation.


 

Silver level
To achieve the Silver Award councils must have already completed the Bronze level and achieve certification in:

  • Commitment and leadership
  • Nomination and recruitment
  • Remuneration, recognition and training
  • Work and family balance
  • Outline at least three projects the organisation will undertake or have undertaken to address gender equity issues
  • Complete an online staff survey.

 

Gold level
To achieve the Gold Award councils must have already completed the Silver level and achieve certification in:

  • Commitment and leadership
  • Nomination and recruitment
  • Remuneration, recognition and training
  • Work and family balance
  • Outline at least five projects the organisation will undertake or has undertaken to address gender equity issues
  • Complete an online staff survey.
     

Winners of the Gold Award will be able to promote themselves as Gender Equity Employers of Choice.

What is Council trying to prove?

 

While Council is not trying to 'prove' anything, it will allow the Council to be recognised for its commitment to gender equity and been seen as a 'Gender Equity Employer of Choice'.

Q5.

What is gender equity?

 

Gender equity is ensuring that all staff regardless of their gender are treated equally and special consideration is not given to a worker simply because of their gender.  This relates to all areas of the workplace including (but not inclusive of) its conditions, recruitment, training, promotion and pay rates.

Q6.

How will this make any difference to my job in Council?

 

These awards will highlight gender equity issues that may be current in your workplace and encourage change, if necessary, to occur .  Alternatively it will acknowledge and formally recognise that your Council is already committed to gender equity.
